Re: 10.24.130 Fireworks Prohibited

Dear Chief Ramsay,

The Samish Neighborhood Association Board of Directors recently received a presentation from a concerned city resident regarding a proposal of a total ban on all fireworks within the city limits. After discussing this issue in great detail on several occasions, our board does not feel we can endorse such a ban. We do, however, feel that more could and should be done to enforce the currently existing fireworks law in accordance with the existing municipal code and available police resources.

We understand and appreciate that the safety and security of the residents of Bellingham is your department’s primary concern.  However, please accept this letter as our request to provide added emphasis to enforcement of the existing Fireworks Law as prescribed in the city’s municipal code especially during the periods around the 4th of July and the New Year.

Thank you for your attention on this matter.
